In the Response to Intervention framework, the classroom teacher has different responsibilities towards students placed in tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 interventions.
Tier 1· Keep instruction the same for all students, however a teacher should monitor and document students who may be “at risk”.
· Direct instruction should be given when needed, as is the same with all students. · Make other classroom interventions such as seat assignment, checking for understanding, differentiating lessons and classroom management. · Monitor student progress to intervention plan they have come up with for student. · Make parents aware of what interventions are being used. |
Tier 2· Provide addition support and small group or one on one instruction. This can be done by a teacher or if a student requires constant assistance, an EA can be brought in as well if available.
· Provide extra opporutiniy for practice. · Pace of instruction is slowed down. · Communicating with parents of extra interventions. |
Tier 3· Refer student for special education because support from Tier 1 and Tier 2 was not successful.
· Set up school based team meeting. · Teach strategies for how to process information. |
